E Pade mi ni sale, konko below🎵

Lagbaja croons as we make our entrance and I am informed that this is an underrated twerking song made for darkly lit rooms, one cup in hand as a bad shawty goes konko below, rivalling the drums beat for beat.

It is easy to tell people’s ages by the songs they bob their heads to and tonight everybody is here. Most importantly, my dream 30+ women are here living their best lives in short dresses. I absolutely love to see it. Nigeria has an enjoyment culture that no economic woes can take from us. The government is bad, onions are a luxury item but these moments of bliss make us forget all that for a moment. A cold bottle of Guinness, the breeze on your back, and a DJ playing songs that remind you of a better time.

Not a Goldberg ad , Orijin is still my favourite brew

Yahoo oo, Yahoo oo, Yahoozee🎵

Fraud songs have you conflicted because you know where your beliefs should stand but the songs are so damn lit. Your body just betrays your mind and starts moving. You don't know if the other people at the bar share your convictions but they certainly share your taste because when Yahooze comes on, the crowd moves in sync to it, replaying the moves that invaded diplomatic functions and churches in its prime. The notoriety and love in equal measure remind you of Bella Shurmda’s Cash app currently topping your playlist.

Olufunmi o, ma pa mi lekun 🎶

Style Plus comes on and we agree that they were ahead of their time. They would have ridden these crop of artistes out of town with their game. Or would they? The conversation around timing is always a difficult one to have. We will all have our shot in this game of life, we can only hope to play our hearts out and leave good memories. History and spectators can argue about legacy and impact, that’s a much easier job.

The man just dey do Kerewa🎼

Zule Zoo screams the overtly sexual bop, Kerewa and I give a quick shout-out to primary school band boys who snuck these jams into march pasts. Low-key I realize this should be the anthem for a backshots marathon ( That fast-paced part made where they scream Kerewa on repeat) I don’t have the facilities for that but it should bang ( let me know)

Omo wa je ka Collabo 🎶

Deebee comes on and I remember a dry run that has refused to end and how I have closed my heart. This love thing simply requires two people who want the same thing and are willing to work for it. I have always wanted something else and there's no point causing other people pain when they stick around waiting for you to change your mind.

Ten over Ten Chikena 🎵

Naeto C’s perfect jam is the perfect way to close a night out. Even though everything isn’t perfect, it gets you pumped as you close your eyes to see the future through Orijin coloured lenses. Like the guy at the next table on Instagram live, dancing away and providing entertainment for his followers, tomorrow will take care of its worries. Tonight you’re ten over ten.
